Write Your Own Spells

Spells are simply prayers with attitude. Intent is all-important.
The things you use in magic such as Chants, candles, talismans, cords, etc.,
are there only to help you focus your intent.
They are like personal props an actor uses to get himself into character.

If you can’t find a spell that you need, simply write your own,
just be clear about what you want.
Take your time and really think about what you want to do.
Just remember ‘An Harm None’.

It’s always good to keep track of the spells you perform.
This will help you later determine what went wrong,
or simply help you determine what you did right. :)

Here is a sample worksheet for writing your own spells and formulas:

The Journey, Rituals & "Spells"May 24, 2007 11:14 pm

I say a prayer for each bead. For the first set, I say a prayer for myself or my fiance. For the next set, I say a prayer for my friends or my family, and the final set, I say big-scale prayers for the world, or prayers from requests, etc.

Sometimes I say the same prayer over and over again, or sometimes I say different prayers. The bead colors in correlation to the prayers aren’t set in stone, rather I see the beads as a handy tactile object to help me keep my focus, especially for evening prayers.

Godchild Spell

When you want to bless a new godchild, light a white candle. Gather up a
photo of the child. Take the gift you plan to give to the child, and invite
your guardian angel and the child’s guardian angel into the space. Talk with
them about all the good things you hope for the child’s life. Write cards to
the child with all the wishes to be given to the child on his or her
thirteenth and twenty-first birthdays. Bless and consecrate the gift, and
thank the angels.

New Beginnings Ceremony

The new moon is my favorite of all the moon phases. Perhaps it is
the dark side of the moon concept of unseen forces that intrigues
me. This is not to say that the beauty of the full moon doesn’t take
my breath away…it does. I can say that I have never howled at a
full moon, but people have been known to get a bit crazed during a
full moon, just ask your local bar keep or the night nurse working
the midnight shift at the trauma center.

In choosing the moon as a topic in healing I would suggest a simple
new moon ceremony to manifest your desires, your wishes, healing,
and well-being into your life. Any intentions stated or written down
carries power, so be clear on what it is you would like to create in
your life. The saying, be careful what you ask for, you might get it
is fair warning in moving forward with a new moon intention ritual.
Once you have set your new moon intention, it need not be set in
stone. The moon has its phases and so do our individual wants and
needs. This is why it is a good practice to rededicate your list of
intentions each month. Changes can also be made mid-cycle, but I
have found them not to be as powerful. I am a member of an online
discussion list whose members participates in a group new moon
intention each month. The power of the group dynamic of this has
proved to have postive changes for all of us.

New Moon Manifestation Preparation

Check the calendar for the next upcoming new moon.
Set aside 20-30 minutes to do the ritual itself.
Supply suggestions: 2 Notebooks, colored pens, scissors, scotch
tape, candle, matches, incense, smudge sticks, flower essences, etc.
Prepare yourself a sacred space to perform the ceremony at.
Setting your New Moon Intentions in Motion

Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging,
and/or by burning some incense.
Light one or more candles.
Center your being and calm yourself in whatever way is appropriate
for you. You might enjoy sipping on a cup of chamomile or mint tea.
I also have a special blend of flower essences that I use
specifically for manifesting rituals that works well enough.
Open your notebook, and date it. Write down these words or similar
words. "I accept these things into my life now or something better
for my highest good and for the highest good of all concerned."
Below this statement, begin writing down your desires. Your list may
consist of only one item or you may have several pages written down.
Try not to limit yourself. If having many things in your life helps
to fulfill you then don’t deny yourself wanting these things.
During the month when an item on your new moon list comes to you,
don’t merely cross it off of your list, take the time to rewrite the
list in its entirety eliminating the manifested item from the
listing. This is highly recommended. At the same time you may add
whatever else that you have decided you would like. Feel free to
reword any of the original phrases if they better fit your life now.
It is only natural that your desires change over days/weeks/
months/years.
The second notebook will be used as a scrapbook where you paste in
pictures or catalog clippings of items that you want to manifest.
This is a fun project so enjoy yourself. You will soon be amazed how
these things begin to find their way into your life once you start
this practice. I pasted a photo of a spa in my scrapbook and
manifested it in just a few months time.
Rededicating your New Moon Intentions

Each month at the new moon you rededicate your intentions by
renewing the list at a repeated ritual. This is accomplished by
rewriting them out, removing the items that no longer feed your soul
and adding those that do. I like to salt and pepper my manifest list
with smaller items that will manifest quickly, such as tickets to
the ballet, or lunch with a friend, or a day of all play and no
work. You may think that these are such small things that they don’t
apply or are not worth writing down. Wrong! Believing that these are
things that we can easily acquire so its not really manifesting
upsets the balance. Manifesting smaller items on our lists actually
gives life to the list. These smaller manifestations create
movement…..an ebb and flow of the tides. We are dealing here with
the moon cycles after all. Besides, sometimes we forget to enjoy the
smaller pleasures in our lives while we are waiting for the BIG
stuff to come in. If you only write statements like, "I want to win
the lottery" in your notebook then you are limiting yourself by not
allowing abundance to flow to you from other avenues.
New moon ceremonies having to do with creation, manifestation,
birth, and rebirth. The full moon is at the other end of circle as
it completes the cycle, it symbolizes the end chapter. This is the
time of the month that rituals are done in releasing or purging the
things in our lives that no longer serve us such as addictions to
food, drugs, or sex, relinguishing suffering involved in hurtful
relationships, discharging physical and emotional pains, etc. Not
too long ago I was watching an episode of "Party of Five" where
Charlie was throwing personal items that were in anyhow involved in
his cancer into a bonfire. His actions were in celebration of his
cancer going into remission. He even tossed the shirt he was wearing
into the fire because it was the shirt he wore when he was first
diagnosed with cancer, or was it his pants? Anyway, this televised
scene could have easily been portrayed as a full moon ceremony.

Full moon ceremonies I have participated in have been pretty simple,
with perhaps a pinch or two of pagan tradition thrown in.
Each person in the circle takes his/her turn throwing in scraps of
paper into a fire that is then watched turn into ashes. The scraps
of paper have words written down on them of those things we were
releasing or vowing to change in our lives. Yes, a full moon
ceremony can be as simple as that.

Full Moon Purging Preparation
Check your calendar for the next upcoming full moon.
Create a sacred space and arrange a time to perform the ceremony. My
preference is at night-time and outdoors so you I stand under the
moonlight.
Write down on seperate slips of paper all the things you want to
release or change.
Supply suggestions: fire proof calderon or cooking pot to toss the
burning paper in, candle with matches or lighter, water (to put out
the fire afterwards), and smudge sticks for cleansing.

Full Moon Purging
Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging,
and/or by burning some incense. Invite your
guides/angels/masters/teachers to be at your side throughout the
ceremony.
Light one or more candles. Look to the skies. Breathe in the night
air.
Read the writing on each slip of paper one at a time. Set your
intention to release the item/addiction/attitude from your life. Set
it to fire and place it in the calderon. Of course, if you have a
campsite barbecue or bonfire going that’s cool, just toss the slips
of paper in one by one. If you are doing this ritual with a group of
others take turns reading your words. If these things are too
personal to read out loud, read them silently to yourself. Just
remember…. our words have power…. Saying - "Be Gone" audibly and
loudly can be very freeing. Go ahead, howl at the moon if you’ve a
mind to. *laugh*
Thank the Spirits. Be Safe. Put out the fire.

Spell Boxes

The night of the new or full moon is a good time to cleanse and
empower your spell box. Cast a circle and cleanse your box with
salt, incense, water and fire. With the lid open, hold the box to
the north and call the powers of the earth to empower the box as
a tool of magick. Do the same facing east, south and west. Return to [b]The box is now ready for use in spells.

Love Spell Box
Line your box with pink cloth, place 2 rose quartz stones in
it (remember to empower everything you put in the box, stating
your intention) Choose 3,7, or 9 herbs from the following list,
empower them and place them in the box:

A handful each of pink and red rose petals1 Tablespoon each of the following:catnipyarrowmintcoltsfoottansyorris rootlavenderbasilstrawberry leavesapple leavesjasminelovagerosemaryvioletbergamotlemon balm Or come up with herbs of your choice, that you feel represent loveto YOU … The important thing, is adding your twist to this …
Cut a heart shape out of pink paper and write down the qualities
you seek in a new lover, dab a little love oil on the paper and
place it in the box, when you’ve filled the box with the love symbols of your choice, close the lid. Place the box on your altar, which has also been prepared for a love spell. Let it set undisturbed at least
12 hours. This spell would be begun on the 1st Friday after a new moon.
Everyday or night until the full moon, light a pink candle in front of the opened box and burn for 9 minutes while you focus on your desire. The box should remain closed any other time. If your pink candle burns
away, replace it. When the spell is completed you can bury the contents
of the box on your property. You might want to tie the herbs and stones
in the pink cloth, tie with a green or pink ribbon and keep as a sachet.
It is done.

The love spell box can be used to end a love affair as
well, different herbs would be used, different color correspondences, etc….

Use your imagination if you need a place to live empower your
spell box to help you find the perfect place. Go to a craft store and
buy a miniature house or use one from a monopoly game. Cut a piece of
paper in the shape of a house and write your requirements on it, if you
want to live in a certain area go there and collect a little dirt maybe
a few pebbles. Make the spell personal; make it yours….

Spell Construction

  Creating Your Own Spell
A spell is nothing more than a verbal ___expression of
your desires, wishes and prayers. Just as with many
prayers, or songs, a spell can be both literary and
poetic, or simple and to the point. The trick to
casting a good spell, is finding the right way to say
it and do it for yourself, not based on what someone
else says you should do. In other words, if it doesn’t
feel right, don’t do it.

The best spells are the ones you create yourself.
Don’t stop reading here just because you don’t think
you have the talent or creativity to create a good
spell. You do! Trust me. You just need to follow a few
basic steps and you’ll be able to perform some of the
most beautiful rituals you can imagine.

  The Power Of A Spell
A spell or prayer find it’s energy from you. You bring
it to life and put it forth on the breath of the
universal wind. Once it comes to life, the energy of
your words can grow, evolve and manifest into reality.
But first you must find the words that have meaning to
you. After all you will be the one casting these words
and desires upon the wind, if you don’t believe in
what they say, how are they going to have the will to
come to life?

The power of a spell is like the power of a prayer. It
finds it’s life within your personal intent, your
desire, you need to bring the event into
manifestation. Ultimately, a spell finds life through
your belief.

  Constructing A Spell
There are only 12 simple steps to creating a good
spell. Get out your Book of Shadows and favorite pen,
then begin your construction.

Before you even thing of setting up your ritual space,
or gathering your tools, you must think about the
design of your ritual and the underlying intent or
purpose of the spell.
The first section of your spell is a statement of
intent. Clearly define what you wish to accomplish
with this spell.
Write out the words you want to recite during the
rite, so you don’t stumble over your words. Create a
simple 4 line verse which explains your desire and
intent. The verse can rhyme if you like, but it
doesn’t have to.
The second verse casts the energy of your intent out
to universe for creation.
The last verse defines the reason for the casting. Be
it healing, spiritual knowledge, or to share your
love.
Here’s an example of a love spell:
I set forth my heart and wish,
for a loving honey of a dish.
I send out my desire for love,
upon the divine wings of a dove.
To share my spiritual need and life,
with a precious woman who will be my wife. (if you’re
a guy)
with honor and respect to be his wife. (if you’re a
girl).
Here’s an example of an employment spell from Patricia
Telesco:
My goal is sure,
my need is strong,
help me find where I belong.
To meet my needs,
employment I seek,
bring me success by the end of the week.
If you want to invoke a particular alchemical element,
decide which one will best represent and compliment
the energy you wish to create. If you need help with
the elements, read the Alchemy Of Life posting. Once
you’ve decided which element to utilize, select an
object or tool that will best represent that energy in
your ritual.
Decide how you will visualize your desire as you
recite your spell. My favorite scientist, Albert
Einstein, once said "Thought is energy. To create
energy, use your imagination". This is the principal
behind visualization. Saying the words to your spell
at the same time visualizing their creation will add
energy to your ritual. Don’t skimp on your
visualization! You might consider doing this part of
your ritual within the frame work of a mini-meditation
so that you can fully enjoy your visualization
journey.
List out all the items and tools you want to use
during your ritual. Candles, stones, matches, music,
tape player or recorder, your Book Of Shadows, a pen,
and so on. Make a check list so you don’t forget
anything when you’re inside your circle.
If you wish to invoke a deity, decide which one. Chose
some symbolic object to represent that deity within
the ritual. Write out the words for a prayer or
blessing to honor the deity you’ve chosen.
If you practice the Celtic method of honoring by food,
decide what type of food to prepare, how to prepare it
and how you will incorporate it within your ritual.
Decide where you will conduct your ritual. Where will
depend largely upon your physical resources and
environment. Make sure the ritual space is clean, and
uncluttered. Make sure the place you choose will
provide you with at least 30-60 minutes of privacy.
And make sure the ritual space is an area where you
feel completely comfortable and at ease in.
The last preparation is to decide the time for your
ritual. Timing involves a few considerations. If you
are invoking a specific deity, you might determine
which time of the day, night, week or even month is
best suited for that particular deity. You might even
decide to conduct your ritual in conjunction with a
particular phase of the moon or location of the sun.

Tarot Spells
Whilst the tarot is principally used for divination, it is also possible to use it to create spells. Whilst you can use your reading deck for this, most Witches who use this form of spell-casting prefer to use a different deck. This is mainly because spell-casting can leave marks, both physical and psychic, on the cards which may interfere with subsequent readings. To create tarot spells it is helpful if you are already familiar with the cards and have fully developed your own interpretation of their meanings. To create a spell, first break it down into a few steps, eg if you are seeking a mentor in the Craft you would want the following: the right place to look, locating a mentor, getting on well together, and establishing good channels of communication. This gives you 4 steps. The most effective spells will have between 3 and 10 steps in them. Now examine your cards and select those which you feel most closely represent each stage. Once you have chosen them place them in a row reading left to right, and light a candle of the appropriate colour in front of them. Whilst it burns visualize each step coming to pass. Now place the cards in their sequence in a place where you will see them each day, but not where others can touch them. Leave them like this for a full cycle of the Moon, 29 days, before returning them to your pack. Between spells the pack should be placed in the light of the Full Moon to clear old spells.

What are Abundance Checks?

Abundance checks are a tool we can use to create more abundance in our lives.
They are written within 24 hours after a New Moon.

Surprisingly, you really don’t even need to believe that the check will work when you write it. You will however be amazed at the results, as you will see increased abundance in your life, in some life area. It is not always financial, but certainly in an area that you need.

There is a traditional manner, which has been handed down, that must be followed. If you do not have a checking account you can draw a check on a piece of paper and fill it out the same way - the results will be the same, more abundance for you.

Here´s how to do them:

When: Each new moon in 2006: [All dates are in UTC time.] DEC. 20 (14:01).

1.) Within 24 hours after a New Moon, take a check from your check book. Where it says "Pay to," write your name.
2.) In the little box on the same line where you would fill in a dollar amount write "Paid in full."
3.) On the line underneath your name, where you would write out a dollar amount, write "Paid in full." [I find it works better if you don’t add the squiggly line.]
4.) Sign the check: "The Law of Abundance."

Do not put a date on the check. Do not write a specific dollar amount in the check. Put it in a safe place and forget about it. The Universe will take it from there.

Many people are skeptical about trying this until they do it. After the first time they realize the power of these checks and do them routinely every month! Try it yourself and see!
