I bought a standard deck of tarot cards today, and just did a standard spread. I wanted to perform my own right now because my boyfriend wants me to do one for him later. I like this deck - it’s very pretty
I’m pretty certain that this spread is in relevance to my current employment/financial situation.
What’s At Hand: Wheel of Fortune - destiny, turning point, movement, personal vision; owning up to your own actions & responsibilities or suffer the consequences, be true to yourself, try something new
Perhaps this is saying to GET A JOB, try something new, yet remain true to myself in the process. Destiny, however, would refer to using what chance offers. Turning point, which means altering the present course, would reinforce trying something new (working somewhere other than a gas station). Movement would refer to rejoining the world of activity and having the tempo of life sped up. Personal vision is in reference to gaining greater perspective and discovering your role & purpose.
What’s at hand is that I should seek employment in a somewhat different field than I’ve been in for years now. Preferrably something enlightening, or at least not mediocre. Something that interests me. Something to encourage me in discovering my role & purpose, both within the workplace, and in my own life.
Past Influences: The Fool - beginning, spontaneity, faith, apparent folly; take things as they are, matters are proceeding as planned, do your part to settle outstanding disagreements, kill others with kindness and let them suffer the consequences, this is a good time to build investments or remodel your home
Past events, situations & relationships that might be influencing the situation.
Beginning refers to heading into the unknown, which could be referring to examples of first starting past jobs with the confidence that I then had. Being spontaneous could be referring to the ways in which I’d quit my past jobs. Faith could reinforce the confidence- letting go of worry & fear. Folly could be referring to trusting the heart’s desire & accepting possibly foolish choices, which is pretty much why I’d quit all of my past jobs. I’d begun all of my past jobs with little fear & worry, unlike how I’d felt at my bank interview. I’d quit all of my past jobs on a whim, basically. I’d put in my 2 weeks at Uni all of a sudden one night because the assistant manager made me stay beyond the end of my shift due to his laziness & lack of comapssion; I stopped going to Pat’s because I was hired at Kenyon’s; I stopped tutoring because Steve was in the hospital; I decided not to help out in advisement at school for the same reason; I quit Kenyon’s the first time because I saw a positive learning experience at Bailly’s; I walked out of Bailly’s (the first time I’d quit) because I was following my heart; I quit Bailly’s the second time for the same reason; and I’d quit Kenyon’s the second time for the same reason.
So, apparently gas stations have been making me quit because my heart doesn’t agree with how the managers do their jobs. Perhaps this is why I should shy away from gas stations. I should learn from the confidence I’d had going into these past jobs- little or no worry or fear.
Ponder This: 6 of Pentacles - Having/Not Having: resources, knowledge, power; you will soon profit from the extra efforts you’ve been putting forth, stop being overly sensitive to the needs of others at work, beware of overindulgence
Not having resources (money) sucks. I have some knowledge, but could always use more. I am powerless, except in choosing the jobs I apply for. I’ve been a little overindulgent with my "time off". I’m too independent to enjoy being taken care of. I should take this spreads advice
Power: asserting/denying your wishes.
I guess I should ponder what I’m willing to do in order to gain an income again. I have the knowledge to be a bank teller, but I’m not terribly fond of having to get up extra-early so that I look presentable.
What To Do: 7 of Swords - running away, lone wolf style, hidden dishonor; making plans becomes problematic, friends may let you down, don’t rely too much on others, you can’t lose what’s not yours to begin with, get everything in writing
Hmmm…introspection is what I’ve been doing, and it’s obviously not making me any money, LOL. I have a written note, referring me to Bob’s daughter’s waitressing job; But it also suggests not relying on others. Perhaps I should bring my note to show his daughter, but still look for other opportunities on my own.
Nick’s Spread
Background Info:
*R = Reversed, which means one of three things: the cards "meaning is not as strong (its meaning is "present, but cannot express normally, freely, or completely"), its meaning is more extreme, or an external influence has more power over the situation".
*The major arcana (Fool & Star): "Each of these cards symbolizes some universal aspect of human experience/human nature. Some cards are individuals who personify a particular approach to life."
*The minor arcana (suits explained below) get more specific:
*The suit of Pentacles: practicality, security, material concerns
*The suit of Swords: intellect, thought, & reason
What’s At Hand: R The Fool - general meaning: beginning, spontaneity, faith, apparent folly, innocense; reversed: Take time to enjoy life’s pleasures, use discretion & patience
Past Influences: R The Star - general meaning: hope, inspiration, generosity, serenity; reversed: remain humble, you’ll need imagination to come up with options for action now, examine & evaluate issues carefully
Ponder This: 7 of Pentacles - assessment, reward, direction change; have you been jumping the gun lately? patience & hard work bring success, try to listen to others & postpone decisions until you’re informed, you hate to be broke but don’t over-burden yourself to make ends meet
What To Do: R Knight of Swords* - general meaning: direct/blunt, authoritative/overbearing, incisive (getting to the point)/cutting, logical/unfeeling; reversed: troublemakers surround you, deal with them openly & boldly to keep them from dominating your thinking and blocking your talents
The Tarot cards provoke introspection; They urge you to think about your goals & motives, and to take a look at how you interact with the world.
The Star and The Fool reinforce one another, so perhaps "what’s at hand" is dealing with "past influences". In that sense, the general meaning of both cards together (not the reversed meanings) is innocense, faith, & trust. So, what is the reversed meaning, as this would contribute to the meaning of the rest of the spread?? Perhaps it’s just reinforcing that the general meaning is more extreme, especially since both cards seem to be the basis of the spread. SO, we’ll see what the rest means based on a past influence of innocense, faith & trust. (Ask yourself what situation or period in your life could one or all of those qualities be referring to.)
SOO… What’s at hand is a past influence (a situation or period of your life) of either or all of the following: innocense, faith, & trust.
Ponder this:
how would assessment, reward, or a change of direction have influenced this situation, either:
while the situation/time in your life was occuring?
or now, looking back at the situation?
What to do from here: be direct & to the point in similar situations; troublemakers (people, items, or ideas) surround you, deal with them openly & boldly to keep them from dominating your thinking and blocking your talents
